Snapleaf ("we", "us", "our") operates the Snapleaf mobile application (the "Service"). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service.
We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
When you sign up, we collect:
- Email address
- Display name and username
- Profile photo (if provided)
- Authentication identifiers from third-party providers (e.g., Google, Apple) when you sign in via those services
1.2 Plant & Usage Data
- Photos you upload for plant identification or diagnosis
- Plant collection data (names, notes, watering schedules, growth photos)
- Diagnosis history
- App interaction events (scans performed, diagnoses requested, paywall views)
1.3 Device & Technical Data
- Device model, operating system version, and unique device identifiers
- App version and crash logs
- IP address (used solely for security and abuse prevention)
- Approximate location (only if you opt in, used for climate-aware care recommendations)
1.4 Subscription Data
- Subscription status and tier (basic / pro)
- Purchase receipts validated through Apple App Store or Google Play (we do not store payment card details)
1.5 Advertising Identifiers
- On iOS, we may request access to your IDFA (Identifier for Advertisers) via Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. You can decline at any time without losing any app functionality.
- On Android, we use the Google Advertising ID, which you can reset at any time in your device settings.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the data we collect to:
- Provide plant identification and diagnosis through our AI service
- Personalize plant care recommendations
- Manage your account and subscription
- Send you care reminders (notifications) you have opted in to receive
- Improve the Service through aggregated, de-identified analytics
- Display advertisements (free tier only) and reward you for opting into ads
- Respond to your support requests
- Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud or security issues
- Comply with legal obligations
3. Photo Processing
Photos you submit for plant identification or diagnosis are sent to our AI provider (Google Gemini) for processing. These photos are:
- Used only to generate the response sent back to you
- Not used to train AI models
- Stored encrypted in your account so you can revisit your scan history
- Deleted permanently when you delete the corresponding plant or your account
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:
- Service providers that help us operate the app (Supabase for backend & storage; Google Gemini for AI; RevenueCat for subscription management; Google AdMob for advertising; Sentry for crash reporting). These providers are contractually bound to use your data only to provide their services.
- Legal authorities when required by law, subpoena, or to protect our rights and the safety of users.
- Business transfers in the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, in which case we will provide notice before your data is transferred.
5. Advertising
Our free tier shows rewarded video ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use advertising identifiers to deliver more relevant ads. You can:
- Opt out of personalized ads at any time via the Help & Support → Ad privacy options screen
- Reset your advertising identifier in your device settings
- Upgrade to Snapleaf Pro to remove all ads
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we will request consent before serving personalized ads in compliance with the GDPR.
6. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and associated data
- Export your data in a portable format
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent at any time
To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@snapleaf.app from the email associated with your account. We will respond within 30 days.
Account Deletion
You can request account deletion by emailing support@snapleaf.app. We will permanently delete your account and all associated data within 7 days, except where we are legally required to retain certain records.
7. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 7 days, except for:
- Anonymized analytics data
- Records we are legally required to retain (e.g., financial transactions)
- Backups, which are purged on a rolling 30-day cycle
8. Children's Privacy
Snapleaf is not intended for children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. International Transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. We rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect your data during such transfers.
10. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, hashed passwords, and regular security audits. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Significant changes will also be communicated through the app.
